Religion
Vietnam has three main religions. Mahayana Buddhism is the first one. Mahayana Buddhism is also known as the Great Vehicle. Mahayana Buddhism is a form of Buddhism. The second one is Confucianism. Confucius was a philosopher of China whose teachings influenced East Asia for twenty years. The last religion of Vietnam is Taoism. Taoism is a philosophical, ethical, and religious tradition of Chinese origin that emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao.
Arts & Music
Vietnam has fifty national music instruments. Traditional performing arts include cheo and tuong. The Vietnamese acoustic arts generally have symbolic, expressive and emotional features.
Sports & Recreational Activities
The most popular sport or recreational activity in Vietnam is football (soccer), and volleyball, badminton, wrestling bicycling, chess, and dominoes are also widely enjoyed. Vietnam has participated in the Olympic Games since 1952. They participated in swimming and water sports, martial arts, rowing and canoeing, weightlifting, table tennis, and track. Billards are also popular in Vietnam, and the country's top players compete internationally. Billards is any various games played on a rectangular table with a designated number of small balls and a long stick called a cue.
Holidays/Festivals/Events
Holidays and festivals often fall during the Vietnam spring time in the north. Barley a month goes by that there is not a festival or traditional ceremony being held somewhere in Vietnam. While some of the festival can be hard to get to due to distance and lack of quality accommodation nearby they are all worth making the effort to see. Many of the more colorful and authentic and ceremonies begin early in the morning and often consists of parades and worshiping ceremonies accompanied by music and dance. Foreigners are often rare and considered as distinguish guests at these events.
Foods
Plain rice is at the center of the Vietnamese diet. Steamed rice is part of almost every meal. Rice is also transformed into other common ingredients such as rice wine, rice vinegar, rice noodles, and rice paper wrappers for spring rolls. Another type of food from Vietnam is nuoc mam. Nuoc mam is a salty fish sauce that is used in most Vietnamese recipes. When someone in Vietnam shops for nuoc mam, they look for the words ca com on the label, which indicates the highest quality. The most popular condiment is nuoc cham. Nuoc cham is a dipping sauce, which is common in Vietnam like ketchup is in North America. Like plain rice, nuoc cham is present in almost every meal. Fish, squid, eel, and other aquatic animals are also the center of the Vietnamese diet. Chicken and pork are also important, but is consumed in smaller quantities.
